Miltonduff acquired its distilling license in 1824 and previously operated as an illegal farm distillery under the Milton Distillery name. After a few changes of ownership, the distillery has belonged to Chivas Brothers since 2005. The distillery is very popular with blenders and is rarely bottled as a single malt. Miltonduff is often described as fruity, elegant and “typically Speyside”. This (refill sherry?) hogshead convinces with its complexity and power as well as its particularly interesting aroma profile.
Tasting notes:
On the nose, this exciting Miltonduff shows a delicious fruit and spice mix with lots of ripe fruit (fruit salad), honey, vanilla, white chocolate and exotic spices – delicious, complex and exciting! In the mouth there is an unexpectedly strong, dry and spicy attack, followed by sweet aromas (ripe fruit, vanilla, honey), almonds and dark chocolate – great aroma development – what an exciting Miltonduff! The finish is long and lively with sweet and spicy flavors interplaying – delicious!
