Signatory Vintage – Independent Scotch Whisky Bottler

Signatory Vintage is one of Scotland’s most respected independent single malt whisky bottlers. Founded in 1988 by Andrew Symington, Signatory has gained international recognition for their uncompromising approach to quality and transparency.

Philosophy and Style

Unlike distilleries that produce their own brands, Signatory sources casks directly from distilleries across Scotland. Each bottling is typically a single cask or small batch, often bottled without chill filtration and without added colour, to preserve the whisky’s natural character.

All bottles are labelled with the distillation date, bottling date, cask number and bottle strength, making them popular with enthusiasts and collectors.

Benriach Distillery – Diversity and Innovation in Speyside

Benriach Distillery is located in the heart of Speyside, near Elgin in the northeast of Scotland. The distillery was founded in 1898 by John Duff, but had a rocky start with a long-term closure just a few years after opening. Today, Benriach is known as an experimental and versatile distillery, offering both traditional and innovative whiskies.

Production and style

Benriach differs from many Speyside distilleries by producing both peated and unpeated whiskies, and using a wide range of cask types – including bourbon, sherry, rum, Madeira, port and wine casks. This approach creates great complexity and variation in the flavour profile.

The distillery has its own floor malting (active at times), and uses slow distillation, which produces smooth and aromatic whiskies.

Ownership and Development

After being closed and reopened several times, Benriach was given a new lease of life in 2004 when it was purchased by an independent group led by Billy Walker. This period marked the distillery’s creative resurgence. In 2016, it was acquired by the American company Brown-Forman (owner of Jack Daniel’s), who have continued the development with a new visual identity and exciting bottlings.
