This bottling from independent bottler North Star is a single cask from the Blair Athol distillery, located in the Highland region. The whisky is 14 years old and has been finished in a Mezcal cask. The whisky was bottled at 49% abv in 2021 and is limited to 196 bottles.
If anyone can do this finish it is the malt from Blair Athol, with its soft and rich malt flavor that plays perfectly with a “touch” of Mezcal.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Rich malt with notes of Mezcal, fruits and citrus.
Palate: Sublime malt sweetness, fruit, white pepper and Scotland’s version of vanilla wreaths: “Short Bread”.
Finish: Mezcal comes to the fore here, but does not take over. It plays perfectly together with the sweetness from malt, which gives a rounded taste. Great interplay between the two casks, which results in an exquisite dram.
